It’s about time.
The San Antonio Stars grabbed their first win of the season by recording an 89-82 victory over the Chicago Sky.
Isabelle Harrison led the way for the home team in the seven-point victory. Here’s a look at how San Antonio finally got a win for their latest campaign, a look at the latest standings, and also what’s coming up next for both of these teams.
The San Antonio Stars received two double-double performances on Friday night. One of the top performers was center Isabella Harrison who put up 19 points along with 10 rebounds, while also dishing out six assists.
Her performance also included Harrison knocking down her first three-pointer of her career. Teammate Alex Montgomery had 12 points and 10 rebounds on the night, while Moriah Jefferson finished with 13 points and eight assists in the Stars’ first win of the WNBA season.
For the evening, the Stars shot 53.4 percent and grabbed 31 rebounds. The Sky also shot 53 percent but had 20 boards in their effort. Both teams finished with 13 turnovers, but it was the home team’s double-double performers that ultimately helped them grab that elusive first win.
For the Chicago Sky, Allie Quigley had a game-high 27 points in a losing effort. Quigley shot 10-for-14 from the field including a 3-for-5 performance from downtown. Center Stefanie Dolson finished with 14 points, while Jessica Breland added 10 for the visitors.
The good news for the San Antonio Stars is they avoided tying or possibly breaking a league record for most consecutive losses to start a season. The Atlanta Dream will continue to hold that record with 17 straight defeats in the 2008 WNBA season.
