John Wall On Kyrie Irving Situation: I’d Stay Put

John Wall wants to remain in Washington so bad that when news of Kyrie Irving wanted to leave Cleveland started to make rounds, it baffled the Wizards point guard.

“That was crazy to me. I didn’t know that was happening at all. Well, too bad,” Wall said (via CSN Mid-Atlantic). “It’s kinda tough. If I had been to three straight [NBA] Finals, I’d want to stay but you never know what type of relationship or what type of details they have going on the backside. Nobody knows what’s going on behind closed doors.”

Irving and Wall have been two of the best guards in the NBA since Wall was taken No. 1 overall in 2010 and Irving was taken No. 1 overall in 2011. Both have signed max extensions with their teams as Irving is locked up for the next two years and Wall just signed his four-year, $170 million deal in recent weeks.

Wall said there was never any doubt he’d stay in Washington.

“This is the only team I want to be with,” he said (via USA Today). “Everybody was panicking and wondering why I didn’t sign my extension. Y’all didn’t have to worry. This is the city I love being in and love playing here.”

The four-time NBA All-Star averaged 23.1 points and 10.7 assists while taking the Wizards to the Eastern Conference Semifinals in 2017. He and his Wizards were one game away from facing Irving and LeBron James in the Eastern Conference Finals.
