The Cleveland Cavaliers won it all last year without ever fully assimilating Kevin Love in the scheme of things. That was about to change this season. Love is averaging almost 22 points and 11 rebounds a game through 13 outings, both highs since he wore a Cavs uniform.
Love is averaging almost 22 points and 11 rebounds a game through 13 outings, both highs since he wore a Cavs uniform. That culminated to a 40-point, 8-rebound performance in a win over Portland at home, 34 of which happened in the first quarter alone!
Just a little bit of history: Love’s 34 is the second-most anyone has ever scored in a quarter, behind only Klay Thompson’s 37 in January 2015 and the most points by anyone in the first 12 minutes. That rendered George Gervin’s 33 on third place although the Ice Man’s 37-year-old record is impressive in itself considering they don’t have a three-point line back then.
“I’m not trying to be nonchalant about it, but sometimes when you’re in it, you don’t necessarily feel it,”Love said about his historic performance. “There was nothing out of the ordinary as far as our play-calling and our flow of the game. I just felt like guys were finding me.”
And you did a good job finding the bottom of the net as well, K-Love!
